It all started in 1910 with a licorice recipe from Sicily. Xaver Fassin brought it back from the island, and his son Klaus Fassin used it to produce little licorice kittens, the "Katjes Kinder." Katjes means "little kitten" in Dutch, and that's why Katjes's oldest product still has this distinctive cat shape. Made from spicy hard licorice with no animal gelatin and gluten free.
